This competition is a knock-out tournament for English football clubs in League One and League Two of the English football system, which also includes a number of Premier League and Championship “B teams” with Category One status.

Portsmouth beat Sunderland on penalties to win the 2019 Checkatrade Trophy following a thrilling 2-2 draw in front of a competition-record crowd at Wembley Stadium.
